Idli

Introduction:
Idli are the savory cakes which are made with rice and are serve with chutney or samber. Usually eaten at breakfast or lunch, these cakes are quite soft and delicate in their texture and quite nutritious to eat. This savory dish was originated in Tamil kitchens and is famous all over India. To make these rice cakes is very easy as you will find by following through the below written recipe.

Ingredients:
  • One cup of rice
  • Half cup of urad daal
  • Three quarter or one teaspoon of salt
  • Quarter teaspoon of baking powder
  • Oil for frying
Preparation Process:
Wash rice and daal and soak them for two to three hours. Then blend the together with quarter cup of water to form a thick and fine paste. Add salt and baking powder and let it rest overnight so that it gets fermented. Next day, mix the mixture with spoon and fill the greased idli moulds three quarter. Place them in a pressure cooker or a wide cooking pan (degchi) and let them cook by covering the lid on low steam for ten minutes. You can also bake them in the gas oven. Cut their edges through knife and serve them hot with any chutney or sambhar.
